Bromley v Southend United – Vanarama National League – Hayes Lane – Report

Bromley 1-1 Southend United

A tidy finish from Matthew Dennis earned Southend United are hard-earned and unexpected share of the spoils at Hayes Lane, stopping hosts Bromley from climbing to the top of the Vanarama National League in the process.

The Norwich loanee netted a fantastic goal to see off Dorking Wanderers in the Buildbase FA Trophy a week previous and he again showed class, lifting the ball neatly over Ravens’ keeper, Mark Cousins, just minutes after Michael Cheek’s glancing header had given Bromley a second-half lead.

Blues were well worth a point and will perhaps feel unlucky not to have snatched all three with Sam Dalby, Lewis Gard and Rhys Murphy all going close for Kevin Maher’s side.

Omar Sowunmi’s goalbound header was cleared off the line by Will Atkinson during teh early stages. Meanwhile, Bromley were forced to play out the final fifteen minutes with ten men after Liam Trotter was forced off through injury after the home side had already made all three of their substitutions.

Southend United remain in nineteenth place, one point above the dropzone. They return to Vanarama National League action on Tuesday, December 28 when Barnet visit Roots Hall Stadium (3pm).
