Derby delight for Rovers as Nzala settles basement battle

Great Wakering Rovers v Hullbridge Sport – Pitching In Isthmian League North – Burroughs Park – Report

Great Wakering Rovers 1-0 Hullbridge Sports

Great Wakering Rovers clambered off the bottom of the Pitching In Isthmian League North table after Ashley Nzala’s early header proved sufficient to see off local rivals Hullbridge Sports in this basement battle at Burroughs Park.

Nzala met Connor Hammond’s free-kick to hand the Rovers a priceless three points which saw them leapfrog Hullbridge in the table and relieved some of the pressure on boss, Steve Butterworth.

“Obviously, we are over the moon to get the three points,” Butterworth told Yellow Sport.

“We could have been out of sight in all honesty – hitting the post, bar everything but the net – but that’s football.

We now have a big week, heading to AFC Sudbury on Tuesday evening. We musty try to push further away from the bottom of teh league.”
