Derby joy for Beach Boys and Clarets

Non-league round-up

Vanarama National League South

It proved to be a decent Boxing Day for both Concord Rangers and Chelmsford City after the pair ensured bragging rights following comfortable derby victories.

Concord hammered Billericay Town by for goals to one at the Aspect Arena. An own-goal from Themis Kefalas, along with further strikes from Aron Pollock, James Blanchfield and Joel Nouble ensured the home side all three points – Femi Akinwande netting the Blues consolation.

And it was the same outcome at the Melbourne Stadium where Rod Stringer’s Chelmsford City side had too much for Braintree Town.

Chris Whelpdale bagged a brace for City, while Robbie Simpson and a Shaun Jeffers penalty completed the rout. Tyler Christian-Law had given the Iron hope, but both they and Billericay now occupy places in the bottom half of the table.

Vanarama National League

Dagenham & Redbridge ended a run of five successive league defeats thanks to a late Chike Kandi strike against bottom of the table Ebbsfleet United at Victoria Road.

Alex Reid had given the Kent side the lead midway through the second half – the Daggers are just two points above the dropzone.

BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division

Haringey Borough were involved in an eight-goal thriller at Enfield Town but returned from Donkey Lane without anything to show for their toil.

Chiduben Onokwai scored twice – one from the spot, while Danilt Akindayini also found the net for Borough. However, Enfield took the points thanks to goals from Ryan Blackman, Muhammadu Faal (2) Lyle Della-Verde and Billy Bricknell. The final outcome, 5-3 – Haringey are now fourteenth.

BetVictor Isthmian League North Division

Shad Ngandu grabbed a hat-trick – two from the spot – as Aveley thrashed Grays Athletic by six goals to one. George Sykes, Alexander Akrofi and Tony Martin completed the scoring for the rampant Millers – Joao Carlos with a late consolation for Grays.

Great Wakering Rovers was also amongst the goals. Jake Gordon, Martin Tuohy, Jack Stevenson and Adalberto Pinto netting in a 4-1 victory at Hullbridge Sports. Callum Fitzer scored for Sports in front of a largely disappointed crowd of 66 at Lower Road.

Maldon & Tiptree remain top of the table after coming from behind to beat Heybridge Swifts by the odd goal in three. Odei Martin-Sorondo had given the Swifts a first-half lead. Charlee Hughes and Hamza Kaid netted late on to move the Jammers three points clear with three games in hand.

Plenty of goals between Tilbury and Canvey Island at Chadfields. The Dockers ran out 5-3 winners with Brian Moses scoring a hat-trick, while Ola Ogunwamide and David Knight also found the net. Jason Hallett, Kane Gilbert and Sam Bantick responded for the Gulls.

ProKit UK Essex Olympian League

No games in the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League on Boxing Day. Although Old Southendian staged their annual ‘Overs v Unders’ fixture at their New Garon Park 3g ground. The final outcome, an entertaining 6-6 draw.
