Southend United 1-4 AFC Wimbledon – Reaction
SOUTHEND UNITED midfielder, Timothee Dieng, admitted the Blues performances have been far from good enough as they continue to struggle at the wrong end of Sky Bet League One.
Speaking after Southend were annihilated by AFC Wimbledon at Roots Hall Stadium, the Frenchman said: “Obviously, we lost the game so we are not happy.
“We know that it is not good enough from every player on the pitch – we have to do better.”
Blues found themselves 2-0 behind after 11 first-half minutes, then conceded early in the second half as the South Londoners recorded a comfortable 4-1 success: “I don’t know, but it’s not the first time it has happened to us this season and last season. We can’t start both halves in a good way so we have to improve in that period of time.
Yes, after our goal I think we played well and was on the front foot. We found the ball in a good way,” he bemoaned.
“But after half-time, we conceded five minutes into the second half – we can’t keep doing that.
On getting his first start of that campaign, Dieng added: “I’m happy to be back on the pitch and playing for the team. But obviously, I can’t be happy with our performance and our result. It is a mixed feeling.
When quizzed as to whether he believed Southend could pull themselves out of trouble, the former Bradford City man said: “Yes, surely, I think we’ve got (the players) in the squad.
“But we’ve said that for a long time now. We need to show that we can get a result.”
