A dispersal order is being put in place in Chelmsford following information about a car meet where at least 400 vehicles are planning to attend.

Police received information about the meet which is planned from 7.30pm on Friday (May 12).

A similar event was held in Thurrock earlier this month during which a spectator was injured.

The dispersal order will be in place from 5pm on Friday until 6am on Sunday (May 14). It gives officers the power to direct anyone believed to be acting anti-socially to leave the area.

Inspector Sam Girdlestone said: “We have taken this action to combat anti-social use of vehicles and because of the impact we know these types of events have on people who live in the area where they happen.”
