Police have been authorised to use dispersal order powers in the Roscommon Way area of Canvey, following reports of street racing this evening.
Officers are in attendance and have powers to move people on if they are believed to be involved in crime, anti-social behaviour or disorder.
The order is in place until 7am Sunday September 19, in the area shown within the boundaries in the map above.
This includes Roscommon Way and its junctions with Canvey Road, Haven Road, Romainville Way and Northwick Road; Canvey Road at the junction with Haven Road, and the Northwick Road junction with Canvey Road.
Inspector Dan McHugh said: “We regularly patrol the area and work closely with partners to tackle anti-social driving connected to unauthorised car cruise events.
“We have no issues with true car enthusiasts who meet in sensible locations with the landowner’s consent with roadworthy cars and are respectful to the local community.
“But irresponsible and dangerous driving puts lives at risk.
“We will use legislation available to us, such as dispersal orders, to continue tackling this issue. We will also use legislation to seize vehicles being used to commit offences.”
Anyone who witnesses crime and anti-social behaviour is asked to report it online at https://www.essex.police.uk or use the ‘Live Chat’ button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm. Alternatively call 101.
