A dispersal order has been put in place in Basildon, following concerns that many vehicles will be attending a pre-arrange car meet tonight.

The order has been put in place to prevent crime and disorder, stopping those in the area feeling distressed or alarmed.

A dispersal order gives officers the power to move people away from the area. If they don’t comply or return to that area within a certain time-period, they can be arrested.

This order will be in place from 6pm this evening until 2am tomorrow morning (July 17).

The affected area, as highlighted on the map above will cover Kwik Fit Basildon and Festival Leisure Park.

Inspector Michael Peterson said “We appreciate that these large car meets can be intimidating and cause disruption for residents.

“Until the early hours of tomorrow morning, our officers will have extra powers to prevent any disturbances taking place. For this reason, you may also see an increased officer presence in the area tonight. This is to keep you safe and hold anyone exhibiting anti-social behaviour to account.”

“If you have any concerns about antisocial behaviour in your local area, you can submit a report online at https://www.essex.police.uk or use the ‘Live Chat’ button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm. Alternatively call 101.

Always call 999 in an emergency.”
