Essex look set to secure a quickfire LV=Insurance County Championship Division Two victory over Gloucestershire after another dominant dispaly on day two at Chelmsford.

Paul Walter led the way with a superb 96 off 241 balls, helping the home side establish a sizable first-innings lead. Simon Harmer contributed 45. David Payne and Khan snaffled three wickets apiece for the visitors, who earlier had been skittled for 76 – Jamie Porter taking 4/32, Sam Cook 3/27 and Harmer an impressive 3/2.

The Essex attack made swift inroads into Gloucestershire’s second innings. Harmer took his match figures to 4/41, while Cook also added to his account as Gloucestershire were left floundering on 132/5 (James Bracey 50 – Ben Charlesworth 49), still, 68 runs short with just five wickets remaining. Play resumes on Tuesday at 10:30am.
