Downpour causes flooding in Havering

Havering Council teams have been working to clear up the affected roads, drains and gulleys after a downpour and hailstorm caused flooding in some areas on Friday evening.

Forty millimetres of rain fell in just an hour, which is the heaviest rainfall in the borough since 2016.

Gidea Park and Collier Row were particularly affected with some council tenants having to be moved to alternative accommodation.

The banks of the lake at Raphaels Park in Romford were breached and the park has been closed.

The council’s waste collection contractor Serco will also be providing a number of teams on Sunday (June 27) who will be out collecting damaged goods and waste materials.
