Essex Eagles suffered a sizable defeat as their Royal London Cup Group B finally got underway.
Having been frustrated by the Lancashire showers during the week, a decent Chelmsford crowd came out, largely expecting to witness a home triumph.
But it wasn’t to be. Wicketkeeper/batter, Brooke Guest, hit a superb 88 off 79 balls, while Mattie McKiernan contruibuted 72 and Luis Reece 52 as the visitors posted a mammoth 3018/6. Aron Nijjar returned figures of two for 49 for the home side.
The Essex response never really gained momentum. Debutant, Grant Roelofsen caught the eye with 43 off 58, while Jamal Richards top-scored, hitting 46 during a 47-minutes stint at the crease.
However, Ben Aitchison, Markl Watt and Luis Reece claimed two wickets apiece, helping the visitors over the line with some to spare.
