Essex Eagles suffered another heavy T20 Vitality Blast defeat as hosts, Kent Spitfires roared to a comfortable 67-run triumph at Canterbury.

Kent skipper, Daniel Bell-Drummond hit a majestic 88 off 44 balls – a knock that included four boundaries and six 6s. Meanwhile, Zak Crawley contributed 69 from 39 and Jack Leaning an unbeaten 42 off 17 as the homes side amassed 263/3 – Sam Cook (1/33), Jack Plom (1/50) and Paul Walter (1/21) the only Eagles to enjoy some success with the ball.

The target was never really in Essex’s reach. Wicketkeeper/batsman, Adam Wheater provided the visitors top score of 46, while Simon Harmer (31) and Aron Nijjar (27*) were also amongst the runs. But headed up by Leaning’s 3/15, ably supported by 2/30 from Matthew Milnes, the contest was long since gone for Essex who slipped to their fourth defeat in six outings.

Essex Eagles return to T20 Vitality Blast action on Monday, June 21 when they face Surrey at the Kia Oval (6:30pm).
