Essex Eagles won by six wickets (DLS method – revised target 148)

Essex Eagles enhanced their chances of T20 Vitality Blast progression with a six-wicket victory over Somerset in a rain-affected encounter at Chelmsford.

Devon Conway’s half-century provided the foundation of Somerset total. Lewis Goldsworthy chipped in with 27 – Simon Harmer taking 4/24 and Jack Plom 3/31 to ensure the hosts’ remained in touch.

Rain enforced a delayed start to the Essex response. Another stoppage led to the home sides’ target being reduced to 148. Wicketkeeper/batsman, Adam Wheater hit 49 off 35 balls, while a maiden unbeaten half-century from Michael Pepper ensured an important success – the 23-year-old’s 55 also coming from 35 deliveries and including four 4s and two 6s.

Ryan ten Doeescahte hit Jack Brooks high over the rope to conclude the contest. Essex Eagles return to T20 Vitality Blast on Thursday, July 1 when Glamorgan visit the Cloudfm County Ground (7pm).
