Early goals from Freddie Sears and Noah Chilvers earned Colchester United their first Sky Bet League Two victory of the campaign at bottom of the table Oldham Athletic.

Sears netted his second spot-kick in a week – converting after Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu had been felled by Latics defender Davis Keillor-Dunn.

The U’s doubled their advantage in the twelfth minute. Noah Chilvers sending a fizzing effort low into the bottom corner of the net from just outside the box.

Dylan Bahamboula reduced the arrears to set up an uncomfortable finale for the U’s. However, the North Essex side held firm and move up to thirteenth place as a result.
