Early goals help Hammers hit Cobblers

Northampton Town v West Ham United – Sixfields Stadium – Friendly Match – Report

Northampton Town 1-2 West Ham United

While David Moyes oversaw West Ham United’s goalless draw at Leyton Orient, Stuart Pearce took charge of a Hammers team at Sky Bet League Two outfit, Northampton Town as the East Londoners looked to get valuable minutes in the tank ahead of the new campaign.

It took just two minutes for the Hammers to make a breakthrough. Cobbler’s defender, Sid Nelson turned Jarrod Bowen’s low cross into his own net after just two minutes.

And it was 2-0 shortly before the quarter of an hour mark. Manuel Lanzini fashioned an opening for Connor Coventry, who in turn drove low into the bottom corner of the net from eighteen yards.

Sam Hoskins pulled one back for Northampton before the interval but West Ham’s young group held firm for a narrow victory.

West Ham United will face Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Wednesday, July 21 (7pm) and they step up their pre-season preparations.
