Eastwood’s unbeaten start to their T-Rippon Mid-Essex League Division Four campaign came crashing to a conclusion against table-topping Purleigh.

Purleigh skipper Christian Freegard led the way with an impressive 125, while Mark Rynn contributed an unbeaten 54* as teh home side posted 238 for four. 

Rhys Tomlin was the pick of the Eastwood attack, returning bowling figures of 9-2-38-2.

The visitors’ chase never gathered sufficient momentum. Stuart Coussins did his utmost, hitting 62. However, Freegard performed equally as well with the ball, taking four for 19, while Shahid Yasin had three for 15 helping the home side to a comfortable success.

Elsewhere, Eastwood’s second string recorded a routine eight-wicket Division Seven victory over their Woodham Mortimer counterparts at Belfairs Park, with Rohith Reddy Sama (5-0-21-3) and Sean Worrall (9-1-24-3) amongst the wickets.

Eastwood’s third team were also victorious, recording a 61-run Division Eleven triumph over Tillingham 3rd. Saikrishna Medi scored 41 for the home side, while Alec Hume finished unbeaten on 35*.

Meanwhile, Eastwood’s newly formed fourth team suffered a narrow one-wicket defeat at the hands of Westcliff-on-Sea’s 6ths
