Eastwood’s bowlers took the plaudits as they got their T-Rippon Mid-Essex League Division Four campaign underway with a narrow 29-run victory over Chelmsford Titans at the Shalford Village Hall Cricket Ground.

Ollie Harp led the way, returning excellent figures of three for 24, while Alfie Jeeves claimed 3/25.

Brett Deeming and Michael Stirrup got in on the act, taking 2/13 and 2/20 respectively as the home side were bowled out for 135. Kumar Sumit scored 44 and Rohit Wadhwani 40 for the home side.

Earlier, Eastwood had posted a modest 164 for nine. Deeming scored 44 off 53 balls, while Stephen Huckstepp contributed 22 to the visitor’s success.

Elsewhere, Gammaduwage Perera and Nirmal Patel took two apiece, but couldn’t prevent Eastwood’s second string from slipping to a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Tillingham at Belfairs Park.

Sai Suraj top-scored with 37 as Eastwood set the visitors a target of 159. Marcus Plummer’s half-century saw Tillinghjam home with eleven balls to spare.

Eastwood’s third team recorded a 219-run friendly victory over Benfleet’s fifths at Belfais, with Jabir Abdul Hameed, Jack Leavy and Rohith Reddy Sama retiring not out after scoring half-centuries.

Kevin Robinson returned figures of three for 6, while Billy Gibbons (2/5), Alec Hume (2/6) and Mark Johnson (2/11) were also amongst the wickets

Eastwood’s fourth team tasted a nine-wicket defeat against Basildon & Pitsea’s sixth-string in a friendly match staged at the Wickford Memorial Park.
