Colchester United 0-5 Tottenham Hotspur U21

Colchester United were on the receiving end of a five-goal drubbing as Tottenham’s youngsters recorded their biggest-ever win in the competition.

 Jamie Donley handed the Lilywhites a first-half lead and bagged another after the restart. Jude Soonsup-Bell bagged a brace of his own while Will Lankshear completed the scoring.

Bristol Rovers 1-3 West Ham United U21

West Ham’s under-21s got their EFL Trophy campaign off to a flying start with a 3-1 victory over Sky Bet League One Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Ground.

Sam Finley gave the Pirates the lead midway through the first half. However, the Hammers hit back through Callum Marshall (penalty) and George Earthy before Marshall grabbed his second of the evening in stoppage time.

Leyton Orient 2-2 Fulham U21

Leyton Orient edged out Fulham’s youngsters in a penalty shootout following a thrilling 2-2 draw at Brisbane Road (Dave Bishop’s report to follow).

Ethan Galbraith gave Orient the lead before Kristian Sekularac and Ollie O’Neill turned the game the way of the Cottagers.

However, Idris El Mizouni netted deep into stoppage time to send the game to penalties and then converted the decisive spot-kick himself to earn the O’s an extra point.
