Eight’s great for consistent Blues

Southend United v Dorking Wanderers – Vanarama National League – Roots Hall Stadium – Report

Southend United 2-0 Dorking Wanderers

Southend United extended their recent unbeaten Vanarama National League sequence to eight matches with a routine 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Dorking Wanderers at Roots Hall Stadium.

Blues rarely appeared in trouble against a Dorking side fighting for their lives, and who recently thrashed league leaders, Chesterfield by four goals to one. The home side forged ahead just before the half-hour mark when GUs Scott-Morriss arrowed a superb dead-ball effort beyond visiting keeper Harrison Male after Harry Cardwell had been impeded.

Leading marksman Cardwell was on hand to kill the contest in the latter stages, arriving to pick up the pieces after Male had denied Noor Husin.

Blues remain in tenth place. They return to Vanarama National League action on Saturday, March 16, when they face Hartlepool United at the Suit Direct Stadium (3pm).
