Elvis Bwomono’s international call-up has left Southend United boss, Mark Molesley, with mixed feelings.
The 21-year-old right-sided defender recently passed 100 appearances for the Roots Hall Stadium outfit and despite the Blues struggles, he has been drafted into Uganda’s squad for their African Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Sudan.
However, the players’ recognition has left Southend short, with the player set to miss Tuesday’s EFL Trophy clash at Colchester United as well as Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two encounter with Walsall.
“Elvis has been called up which is a great honour for him but we’ll lose him for two games,” Molesley explained.
“That’s bitterly disappointing for us because we can ill-afford to lose players.
“A great honour for him because he goes and represents himself, his family and the football club with his country.
“But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t frustrated.”
