Southend United defender, Elvis Bwomono will miss Tuesday’s vital Sky Bet League Two relegation battle with Walsall after receiving an international call-up by Uganda.
The right-sided full-back headed out to represent his country in their forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Burkina Faso on Wednesday.
Speaking to www.southendunited.co.uk, Blues boss, Mark Molesley, explained: “We weren’t sure if he was going to go or not after his illness.
He went out to do the warm-up and he threw his guts up everywhere. He had a bad migraine too and felt quite ill before the game.
“He felt better on Sunday and he flew out late last night. His international game is on Wednesday and unfortunately, they pull rank.
Molesley continued: “They wanted him and if he is available to travel then they could probably stop him playing for us if he didn’t go. We’re at the beck and call of international football and don’t have many rights.
“It’s frustrating because we didn’t want Elvis to go. We’ve always been supportive of our players but we could do with him around. But they did change his flights around so he was available for Saturday and he’s coming back slightly earlier so he only misses the one game.
“We’ve tried to come up with the best compromise we could and he’s missing one game rather than three which is one positive.”
Meanwhile, heading out of Roots Hall Stadium is defender, RobHoward, who has linked up with Vanarama National League outfit, King’s Lynn Town on a months loan.
