Essex Cricket Ability found themselves on the wrong end of a 30-run D40 Pursuit – South defeat at the hands of their Middlesex counterparts at Harlow Town Cricket Club.

Seaxes skipper, Sue Benson led the way with 51, while wicketkeeper/batter, Elliott Brown scored 32 and Jai Charan 21* as the visitors posted 148/3 from their forty overs.

Essex’s Billy Gibbons claimed two Middlesex wickets for 29 from his eight overs. Dom Elliott took 1/39, while Alfie Jeeves did his utmost to keep it tight, returning figures of 0/20 from eight at an economy rate of 2.5.

At 56 for six, Essex appeared to be in all sorts of trouble against a potent Middlesex attack. However, Issac Ellis carried the fight with 25 off 30 balls, while Jeeves chipped in with 18 from 26 and James Cole, unbeaten on 26 off 27.

But it proved to be a bridge too far for the battling home side. Raam Lacmane, Jai Charan, William Beerling, Ben Mason and Dylan Patel each took two wickets to ensure their side a deserved victory.
