Ben Aust was in sparkling form with the bat but was unable to prevent Essex Cricket Ability from slipping to a 44-run D40 Pursuit South defeat at the hands of Surrey Cricket Scheme at Ash Tree Field.

Aust hit a majestic unbeaten half-century off 25 balls. His innings included eight boundaries. Opening batter, Martyn Doe was also in good form, scoring 43, while both Jack Flowers and Benny Fryatt chipped in with 18. Ed Harvey returned figures of two for 26 for the visitors.

Earlier, Surrey had posted 230/4. James Grindrod retired not out having hit 77 off 80 balls, while wicketkeeper/batter, Ollie Clement scored 45, Luke Saunders 32 and Ben Carter 31.

Matthew Thomas was the pick of the Essex attack, taking 2/29 on what proved to be a tough day for the home side.
