Essex Bhoys take derby honours

Catholic United v Old Southendian – Essex Olympian League Premier Division – The Len Forge Centre – Report

Catholic United 2-0 Old Southendian

Old Southendian boss Altan Ali bemoaned his side’s lack of a cutting edge after they slipped to a 2-0 Essex Olympian League Premier Division derby defeat at the hands of Catholic United.

A typically hard-fought encounter was settled through Frank Craik and a penalty by Aaron Baldwin for the home side.

“No excuses, Catholic United were the better side,” Ali told Yellow Sport.

“We started well enough, and I think the officiating, at times, was questionable, but ultimately, we didn’t do enough.”

Ali added: “We have looked good during pre-season. There is a long way to go. It is up to the boys now. They must lift themselves ahead of next week and ensure we don’t lose any more ground.”
