Essex Seniors 60 endured mixed fortunes in their recent fixtures, tasting defeat against their Kent counterparts before beating Berkshire in matches staged at Hadleigh & Thundersley and Buckhurst Hill.

Essex’s 4th XI took centre stage against Kent at the John Burrows Ground. Jerry Wedge top-scored for the home side, reaching 46 before he was run out. Trevor Linahan chipped in with 22 off 21 balls, while Les Gray (22), Vikash Amin (15) and Richard Polley (14) both got a start as Essex posted a modest 154. Kent skipper, Tolson finished with impressive bowling figures of four for 13 from his eight overs.

But Kent confirmed a four-wicket victory with fifteen deliveries to spare. Nilesh Patel reclaimed 2/29, while Don Black finished with 2/21, but all in vain for the home side.

The Essex 3rd XI recorded a friendly victory over Berkshire’s 3rds at Roding Lane.

The visitors borrowed Ivan and Wiji from their hosts and although seasonal showers greeted the teams, a game of 40-over cricket was still played and concluded.

Essex reached 168/8 with Nigel Odell hitting 49, VJ 42 while Simon Cooper and Chris Hales each scored 24.

Paul Fielding and VJ each claimed s brace of wickets as the visitors were restricted to 142/8 – Essex winning by 26 runs.

Essex Seniors 70 recorded a narrow five-run victory over Cambs/Hunts at Little Baddow CC Cricket Club in a 40 over match.

Wiji retired on 40 following a blow to teh chin, while Phil Knappett (37*), Mike Astles (26) and Dave Carter (23) were also amongst the runs as Essex posted 209/7.

The Cambs/Hunts response got off to a flying start with both Ketteridge and Hudson passing 50. However, respectable figures of 2/26 from Phil Knappett, 2/37 from Peter Phillips and Dave Carter’s 3/46 saw Essex home by the closest of margins.
