Essex’s second string picked up their first Second XI Championship victory of the season by edging out their Warwickshire counterparts by 8 runs at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground, Birmingham.

Luc Benkenstein returned excellent second-innings figures of seven for 89, taking his match figures to 12/168. Meanwhile, there were half-centuries for Jamal Richards, Benkenstein and Ben Allison during the contest as Warwickshire were set a target of 293.

Nikhil Gorantla did his utmost for the home side, scoring 102 before Benkenstein took a catch off his own delivery.
