Essex face a tough start to their double defence

SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONS and Vitality Blast winners, Essex, will face a tough examination when their double defence gets underway in April.

After taking on the MCC at Galle in Sri Lanka in late March, Essex begins their Championship campaign when Yorkshire are the visitors to The Cloudfm County Ground (Sunday, April 19/22).

The Champions then swiftly travel to newly-promoted Northamptonshire (Saturday, April 25/28) for what will be another test of their credentials as they bid for a third Division One title in four years.

Essex concludes their Championship season on Tuesday, September 22/25 with a home game against Warwickshire.

Essex Eagles begin their Vitality Blast programme with another home fixture – Glamorgan are the opposition on Friday, May 29. Meanwhile, two days later, Somerset comes to Chelmsford for what is sure to be an eagerly anticipated encounter.

In the Royal London One-Day Cup, Worcestershire Rapids are Essex’s first opposition of the Summer, arriving at Chelmsford on Wednesday, July 22. This is followed by a trip to Gloucestershire on Friday 24.

The Cloudfm County Ground will also be staging two Women’s matches from The Hundred competition as London Spirit used the venue to take on the Southern Brave on Sunday, July 26, then Trent Rockets on Tuesday, August 11.
