Essex frustrated by a soggy surface

Hampshire v Essex – The Bob Willis Trophy – Day One – Arundel Castle – Close

No play was possible on day one of Essex’s Bob Willis Trophy encounter with Hampshire at Arundel Castle.

The leading pair in the south group were left kicking their heels as the ground staff did their utmost to deal with a soggy run-up from the Castle End of the ground – Hampshire using the Sussex venue while England and Pakistan played out the third of their Test Series at their traditional Rose Bowl home.

Unfortunately, despite their best efforts and several inspections, umpires, Ian Gould and Billy Taylor abandoned hope of any play shortly after 4pm.

Play resumes on Sunday at 11am
