Warwickshire v Essex – Edgbaston – Specsavers County Championship Division One – Day One
Warwickshire 269/3 (96.0 overs)
Essex (Yet to bat)
Essex won the toss and elected to bowl
ESSEX’S bowlers were left largely frustrated by as Specsavers County Championship Division One strugglers, Warwickshire, batted doggedly on day one at Edgbaston.
Going into the game with a narrow lead over Somerset in the title race, Essex found the going tough after taking the ball. Indeed, the injury-hit Bears dug in, with Dominic Sibley passing fifty before he was caught by Simon Harmer off his own delivery.
Harmer proved to be Essex’s only success with the ball, taking 3/67. However, Sam Hain and Matthew Lamb – unbeaten on 77 and 69 respectively – ensured the home side the upper hand as the day drew to its conclusion.
Earlier, Will Rhodes had chipped in with a useful 38 – Liam Banks the only Warwickshire batsman failing to trouble the scorers.
