Essex head to Lord’s for 2023 County Championship opener

Essex County Cricket Club will get their 2023 LV=Insurance County Championship Division One campaign underway with a trip to Lord’s to face old adversaries, Middlesex.

Essex head to the world-famous London venue on Thursday, April 6-9 before hosting Lancashire at the Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford a week later, starting on Thursday, April 13. 

Essex concludes their season at Northamptonshire on Thursday, September 26.

Meanwhile, the Eagles Vitality Blast fixtures start with an evening under the Chelmsford floodlights against Gloucestershire on Tuesday, May 30. The final group match sees them travel to the Kia Oval to face Surrey on Sunday, July 2. The quarter-finals will be played on July 6/7, and Finals Day on July 15.

Lancashire provides the opposition for the Eagles’ opening One Day Cup match of the summer. Essex head to Sedburgh on Tuesday, August 1, before hosting Nottinghamshire in the 50-over format on August 3.

Surrey head to Chelmsford for the final One Day Cup group fixture on Tuesday, August 22. The knockout stages commence on August 25, with the final scheduled September 16 at Trent Bridge.

Ireland’s touring side are the visitors to Chelmsford for a three-day match from Friday, May 26-29. The ground is also due to stage a Vitality Women’s IT20 international between England and Sri Lanka on Saturday, September 2.
