Essex on the brink as the weather takes hold
Somerset v Essex – Specsavers County Championship Division One – Taunton – Day Three – Summary
Somerset 203 (68.4 overs)
Essex 25/0 (11.0 overs)
Somerset won the toss and elected to bat
ESSEX moved a step closer to their eighth Specsavers County Championship Division title as rain completely washed out day three of their match with chief-rival, Somerset, at Taunton.
Essex are 25 without loss – Nick Brown 16*, Sir Alastair Cook 5* – in response to Somerset’s first innings total of 203.
The inclement weather had already affected the first two days play, and with just one day of the season to come the likelihood of Essex’s significant lead at the top of the table being whittled away has all but evaporated.
Weather permitting, Play will resume on Thursday at 10:30am.
