Essex trail Nottinghamshire by 95 runs with seven wickets standing

Essex remains in a precarious position at Trent Bridge despite a seven-wicket haul from Shane Snater.

The right-arm medium bowler finished with 7/98. However, a stylish knock of 117 from Nottinghamshire skipper, Steven Mullaney, compiled from 160 balls and including twenty boundaries ensured that the hosts’ hold the upper hand.

Lyndon James passed fifty, while Haseeb Hameed (49) and Stuart Broad (41) helped Notts to 323 in response to Essex’s meagre first innings total of 99.

Nick Browne hit his second half-century of the match as the visitors’ looked to claw their way back, while Alastair Cook contributed 35. But at the close, Essex were still 89 runs adrift with six wickets in hand. Play resumes on Saturday at 11am.
