Essex stands on the threshold of a crushing victory over Lancashire after claiming no less than fourteen wickets on day three of their LV=Insurance County Championship Division One encounter at the Emirates Old Trafford.
Starting the day, already in a commanding position with Lancashire floundering on 32 for five, the Essex attack made short work of the hosts’ order. Sam Cook returned figures of 4/18, while Jamie Porter and Shane Snater took two apiece as Lancs were dismissed for 103 and forced to follow on.
Simon Harmer joined the party as Essex honed in on a sizable success. The South African off-break bowler finished the day with 5/85, while Cook, Porter and Snater topped up their respective accounts to leave the home side teetering on 219/9, and still 75 runs short of Essex’s mammoth first-innings score of 391 (Dan Lawrence 120, Nick Browne 71, Snater 72).
