ESSEX Police has launched an investigation after a gun was reportedly fired in Southend.
The force has appealed for witnesses after a firearm is believed to have been discharged during an argument between some men.
The alleged incident occurred on Tuesday, November 26.
A few hours later, in the early hours of November 27, a man in his 20s attended hospital with a suspected gunshot wound.
A force spokesman said: “We appreciate that this is a concerning time for the public. Please be assured that our officers are working around the clock to progress this investigation and are carrying out numerous CCTV and forensic enquiries.”
Police were initially called by members of the public at around 9pm on November 26.
The callers said two men had shown them a firearm concealed in one of their waistbands, near to Entice on Southchurch Road.
But, said an Essex Police spokesman, “We now believe that this firearm was then discharged, following an argument between the two men and another male, on York Road at around 9.20pm.”
Police are investigating whether this altercation was linked to the man who attended hospital with a suspected gunshot wound.
Both of the men who reportedly showed off a gun near Entice were described as black and in their early to mid-20s. They left the scene on foot.
One of them was ‘stocky’ and wore a dark coat with dark jogging bottoms.
The other was ‘slim’ and wore a grey hooded jumper with dark jogging bottoms.
Anybody with information, CCTV or dash cam footage was urged to dial 101 and quote incident reference number 42/188649/19.
