Essex 156 (18.5 overs)

Essex won the toss and elected to bowl

Glamorgan won by 26 runs

Glamorgan dented Essex’s Vitality Blast South Group qualification hopes with a 26-run victory at Sophia Gardens.

Essex remains in the top four. However, only net run rate separates them from fifth-placed Gloucestershire, who beat Somerset by five wickets at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton.

Glamorgan posted 182 for eight. Colin Ingram top-scored, hitting 47 off 28 balls during a 37-minute stint in the middle, while Chris Cooke scored 38 and Marnus Labuschagne 30. Ben Allison returned bowling figures of 4-0-52-3, while Paul Walter and Matt Critchley each claimed two wickets.

A clutch of early wickets left Essex with an uphill struggle. However, a fourth-wicket stand of 83 between Adam Rossington and Walter appeared to have provided the visitors with a platform for victory. Walter scored 53 from 33, while Rossington contributed 41.

But the contest was once again to swing the way of the Welshmen. Five Essex batters were sent back to the pavilion for just sixteen runs as teh middle order crumbled. Tim van der Gugten did the bulk of the damage with 4-0-20-3, while Labuschagne had 4-0-26-3 seeing Glamorgan home with seven balls to spare.

Essex returns to Vitality Blast South Group action on Thursday, July 11, when Kent Spitfires visit the Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford (7pm).
