Essex’s second string was on the wrong end of a 44-run Second XI T20 South Group defeat at the hands of a strong Kent side at Canterbury.

Zak Crawley led the way for the home side, hitting 83 off 36 balls during a 53-minute stint in the middle. Jamal Richards proved to be the pick of the Essex attack, returning figures of three for 31 from his four-over spell.

Essex batted out their innings but rarely looked like reaching a target of 215. Charlie Allison top-scored with 66 off 30. His knock included nine 4s and three 6s. Marcus O’Riordan took three for 34 for the experienced hosts.
