Extra police powers over concerns of violence in Basildon

Mick Ferris

Police in Basildon are being given additional powers following concerns about violence and disorder.

They have received information indicating there may be disorder involving two groups of people from the Laindon and Pitsea areas this evening, possibly involving weapons.

As a result an order under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 has been made.

This means officers can now stop members of the public without having reasonable grounds to do so.

The order will be in place from 6pm today (Monday October 31) until 7am tomorrow (Tuesday November 1) and covers an area in the map above.
