Colchester and East Essex 250 (39.5 overs)
Shenfield 175 (34.5 overs)
Shenfield won the toss and elected to field
Colchester won by 75 runs
Plenty of good cricket on display at Chelmsford Road, where Colchester and East Essex got their Gooch Division Campaign off to a flyer against visitors Shenfield.
Having been invited to bat, the visitor’s side didn’t hang around. Wicketkeeper/batsman, Simon Fernandes, impressively reaching 109 off 111 balls, a knock which included seventeen 4s and two 6s.
Denson Narayan chipped in with 43 and Oliver Allison 32 – Jack Newton the pick of the Shenfield attach with 3/62.
Colchester’s Charlie Allison produced figures of 4/17 off five overs, largely ensuring his side’s superiority further. Haris Mahmood offered a conundrum with a quickfire 73, but with George Ballington (26) and Tom Ballington (13) the only other Shenfield batsmen to reach double figures, their quest was always likely to end in frustration.
