Fightback too little, too late for Old Boys

Earls Colne 3-2 Old Southendian

CONNOR LANE was left disappointed as his Old Southendian gave themselves an Essex Premier Cup mountain to climb at Earls Colne.

The Old Boys found themselves three goals in arrears before staging a mini-recovery. However, despite a debut goal from Craig Paton and a stunning free-kick by Matt Tonks, the visitors fell short as the North Essex side progressed.

“It was disappointing with how we started the game which ultimately left us with an uphill battle task,” Lane told Yellow Sport.

“We regularly find ourselves coming in at half-time losing and having to fight to get back in the contest. But it is always too late, and against a decent young side who play good football, we didn’t look likely to recover the situation.

“Once again, I’m gutted to be out of the cup. We must now concentrate on climbing the league table.”
