Five-star Old Boys make up for lost time

Old Southendian 5-1 Harold Wood Athletic

Old Southendian recorded their first ProKit UK Essex Olympian League victory of the season at the third attempt by stylishly seeing off Harold Wood Athletic by five goals to one at Garon Park.

Jamie Oates powerfully handed the home side an early lead and it was soon 2-0 – Sam Adcock providing an ice-cool finish after being sent clear.

Harold Wood reduced the arrears through Dan Johnson shortly after the interval but the Old Boys were not to be denied on this occasion. Mitch Ali dribbled skillfully around the visitors’ keeper before making it 3-1.

Craig Paton’s superb swirling free-kick made it four. Ten Ali confirmed a notable success, adding his second of the afternoon in brilliant fashion.

“This has made up for our difficult start to the season,” Old Boys boss, Conor Lane told Yellow Sport.

“We were fantastic and didn’t look like stopping.

We will use this as a stepping stone ahead of next weekend’s tough cup clash with Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, where we want to make amends for our opening day league defeat.”
