FORMER Brentwood Town, Braintree Town and Canvey Island footballer, Christian Mbulu, has died.
Lancashire Police were alerted to an address in Cottam, close to Preston. However, the 23-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
Defender Mbulu started his career in the youth systems at Thurrock and East Thurrock United before joining Brentwood Town as a 17-year-old. The Newham-born player found the net twice in 64 appearances before earning a notable move to Millwall.
During his time with the South Londoners, Mbulu was loaned to both Braintree and Canvey Island for short spells before joining Motherwell, Crewe Alexandra and subsequently Morecambe, whom he had linked up with on a short-term deal until the end of the 2019/20 season.
A post on Canvey Island FC’s Twitter feed read; “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely passing on one-time Canvey loanee defender Christian Mbulu. A tragedy at the age of 23. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time.“
