Gard pens new Blues deal

SOUTHEND UNITED have confirmed that combative midfielder, Lewis Gard, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the newly-relegated Sky Bet League Two club.

The deal – with the option of a second year – is just reward for the 20-year-old who performed amicably during an otherwise disastrous campaign for Sol Campbell’s side.

The player made his debut back in April 2018 against Oldham Athletic. However, a horrific knee injury sustained during a Trophy tie at Colchester saw the Basildon-born player sidelined for a lengthy period before making a goalscoring return during the Blues 2-1 defeat at Oxford United back in February.
