Garon Park discovered local rivals Wakering to be in scintillating form during a hastily arranged round of walking football friendly matches staged at the hosts’ Southend-based venue.
Two sides from Garon’s along with Romford and a strong Wakering team made up the quartet, with the villagers getting the ball rolling with a resounding 7-0 triumph over the home sides’ second string.
The Garon Park first team played out an altogether closer encounter against Romford. Steve Eades equalising after the East Londoners had forged ahead.
A first versus seconds encounter went very much with form, with the top team running out winners by five goals to one. Michael Orme again appeared for Garon’s first. The former Clapton stopper celebrating his call up to the full WFA England squad to play in Spain in May.
Wakering again came out on top when they went head to head with Garon Park’s first team. A Mike Allpress goal proved insufficient as Wakering ran out 4-1 winners. Meanwhile, Garon’s second team again found the going tough in their final fixture as Romford enjoyed a 6-1 triumph.
Romford and Wakering played out a goalless draw in the mini-tournaments’ other encounter.
“Wakering were the best side, but everyone competed and the matches were played in good spirit,” Garon park manager, Mark Elnaugh told Yellow Sport.
