GARON PARK has announced the formation of its very own walking football section, complimenting several other forms of the game currently staged at the ever-growing Southend venue.
Garon Park Walking Football Club – affiliated to the Walking Football Association – will offer members both social and competitive matches.
The non-contact game will be staged on the impressive 3g playing surface, with over 50s, over 60s, over 65s men and women’s teams all part of the clubs’ exciting plans going forward.
Mark Elnaugh, who has gleaned a wealth of experience with Chelmsford City WFC and manages the South East of England Over 50 Squad, will take charge of the club. It is envisaged that the new section will evolve a thriving, self-administrating walking football community from Southend and the surrounding areas.
“We plan to kick-off with a session on Friday, September 4 from 10 am to noon and invite anyone to come along who wants to find out more,” Elnaugh told Yellow Sport.
“There is no charge for the initial few weeks and the sessions will include tea and coffee.
“GPWFC will benefit from the use of an established Club House and changing facilities. The intention is to create a social scene with refreshments and possibly meals available.”
