THE CHELMSFORD CITY SUPPORTERS’ CLUB have provided their favourites with a timely boost by making a £5,000 donation to the Vanarama National League South outfit.
The sizable sum has been dispatched to cover wages and other costs during March, at a time where football clubs are facing an uncertain future due to a lack of income during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A statement posted by the Chelmsford City Supporters’ Club thanked members for their continued assistance, allowing them to help the club through this period.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Steve Shore, took to the club website to confirm City had voted for the 2019/20 season to end immediately.
Mr Shore explained;
You may have seen in the press that the National League is conducting a vote amongst all 68 clubs in the National League and National League’s North and South. The vote is initially should the league be voided or should it be concluded? This will then be followed by a second vote, on how to determine the final placings, promotions etc.
As everyone can imagine this is causing much debate amongst the various club Chairmen and representatives with a myriad of views. It’s not appropriate for this to be shared (some clubs have shared and it has not gone down well as felt it should be private – not sure what they have to hide but I will be a good footballing citizen and toe the line).
From Chelmsford City’s perspective, we have discussed it with Robbie and the challenges with delaying the conclusion of the season and preparing for next and so on this basis, we have voted for the season to be concluded. How the final placings are decided and who, if anyone gets promoted/demoted etc is still for debate and once the options are available I will share these with everyone.
Not sure there is much else to say on the topic as still a bit unknown but hopefully the vote will be concluded soon and we can all have a bit of certainty.
