West Ham United 1-0 Charlton Athletic
(22′ mins): West Ham had the ball in the net early on. Andriy Yarmolenko forcing home from close range – referee, Andre Marriner, deciding Addicks stopper, Ben Amos, had been impeded during the initial melee.
Robert Snodgrass was too high with the Hammers next meaningful attempt. Meanwhile, Sebastien Haller should have broken the deadlock – scuffing wide of an upright after Ben Johnson had skilfully fashioned an opening.
But a West Ham goal looked on the cards – Yarlomenko found some room to the right of the goal, drilling across to Haller who made no mistake, sliding home from five yards.
