Goalkeeper Orme is Garon Park’s star-performer

Former Clapton goalkeeper Michael Orme proved to be Garon Park’s star turn during the lastest round of Essex Walking Football League over 50’s matches staged at Chelmsford City’s Melbourne Park.

Orme made two fine saves to ensure a share of the spoils from a goalless draw with Romford. Then, despite the Southend-based outfit going down 4-2 to Norwich City, the stopper produced a penalty save to further enhance his reputation.

Norwich had opened the scoring but was pegged back thanks to a Mike Allpress spot-kick. However, after the Canaries reestablished their advantage, Allpress was blue-carded following three offences – Norwich making their numerical advantage count by adding a third.

Al Bradley pulled one back for Garon’s, setting up a grandstand finish. But Norwich held firm, then pounced to put an otherwise entertaining encounter to bed with a late fourth.

A high-charged and ultimately well-fought derby draw with Wakering concluded the round.

Allpress gave Garon Park a first-half lead. But despite Wakering being reduced to four players following blue card offences, Kevin Bantin levelled for the villagers. Garon’s held on for a point against one of the strongest clubs in the national game.
