Hadleigh & Thundersley cricketers complete marathon course for Roy

Players past and present from the Hadleigh & Thundersly Cricket Club successfully navigated a 26-mile charity walk in honour of legendary local cricketing figure, Roy Paul, who passed away in January at his care home in Norfolk, aged 85.

Fifteen members of the John Burroughs Park outfit completed the walk, taking in the grounds of Benfleet, King John, Leigh-On-Sea, Westcliff-On-Sea, Southend-On-Sea & EMT, Old Southendian & Southchurch and Eastwood Cricket Clubs’ before returning to their original starting point, raising an impressive total for the Essex Cricket Foundation.

“It was a great event,” skipper, Adam Dobson told Yellow Sport.

“It gave members of the club, past and present, the chance to reconnect after a difficult year and remember a true legend of the club.

“We managed to raise over £3000 for a great cause – everyone who participated will be proud of their achievement. I imagine there will also be a few sore limbs today. I’d like to thank everyone who donated.”
