Southampton 0-0 West Ham United
West Ham United recorded their third Premier League draw in four matches following this uneventful goalless encounter with Southampton at St Mary’s
Tomas Soucek and Said Benrahma went close for the East Londoners during the second period. This after Danny Ings had deen denied an early opener for the Saints after Che Adams was adjudged off-side.
David Moyes remained upbeat – his side remaining tenth after this latest stalemate: “Pleased because we kept a really good clean sheet,” the Scotsman enthused.
“I think there were some new lads that came into the team, we gave them a chance and I thought they did really well and took their opportunity.
“Southampton are in-form and a good team, their league position tells you that.
“Look, it wasn’t a bad point, we are pleased with it and in the same breath we probably just about had the best chance of the game where we could have won it late on.”
Moyes made five changes to the side which has started against Brighton two days ago: “We play again in three days time. I am not moaning because it is the world and the Premier League we play in and have celebrated for so many years,” he added.
“I would like it to be that both teams had a similar situation. For Southampton to have an extra day on us. In the last twenty minutes, we showed as much energy as Southampton. I thought they started the game incredibly well. We grew into the game as it went on.”
