Burnley v West Ham United – Premier League – Turf Moor – Report
Burnley 0-0 West Ham United
Frustrated West Ham United left Turf Moor with a share of the Premier League spoils, questioning the officials after they were denied a seemingly clear first-half penalty.
The incident occurred eight minutes before the break. Dwight McNeil’s challenge on Craig Dawson was clumsy. However, referee, Graham Scott, along with Jonathan Moss at Stockley Park, incredibly rebuffed the East Londoners appeals.
“I think this weekend we’re seeing more soft penalty kicks given in the Premier League, in my opinion, than we’ve seen all season,” West ham boss, David Moyes explained.
“I think if those ones were given I would have expected today’s to be given. But it’s got to be really correct. I thought today’s was worthy of that if that’s the level of penalty kicks.”
Prior to that, Chris Wood nodded an early chance over for the Clarets, while Nick Pope superbly denied Issa Diop after he’d met Jarrod Bowen’s dead-ball delivery at the near post.
After the restart, Pope thwarted Said Benrahma, while Declan Rice was close with a fizzing effort from the edge of the box.
Moyes added: “Our performance was better than we’d played, but in the final third – we’ve seen it a few times recently – we’ve not quite been able to make the final pass or do something a bit special.
“We scored three goals against Chelsea last week but we couldn’t get any today. But we tried hard and if anyone was going to win it, it was certainly going to be us. I thought we had a good part in dominating the game today.”
West ham United return to Premier League action on Wednesday, December 15 when they face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium (8pm). The Hammers then host Norwich City on Saturday 18 (3pm).
