West Ham United v Liverpool – Premier League – London Stadium – Reaction

West Ham United 3-2 Liverpool

These are compelling times at West Ham United just now. The bigger they come, the harder they fall. Manchester City’s four-year Carabao Cup record and now stopping Liverpool in their tracks as the Merseysiders looked to set a club record 26 matches without defeat.

But the Reds left East London stuck on 25 and with their tails between their legs. Sure, they offered superb skill and technique, but on the day David Moyes’ men matched them every inch of the way, adding that priceless commodity, spirit to the mix.

“I want us to challenge whichever teams are in the top four I have laid that down to the players,” Moyes enthused after his exciting side had recorded a memorable 3-2 success.

“I want to challenge those teams I don’t know who they’re going to be. I hope one of them could be us but at the moment others have been there before us. So we need to try and push and I thought today was a challenge.”

The Scotsman continued: “Liverpool have been in such good form they have been so good and they were so good today Liverpool played some great stuff, but we’ve got a bit of resilience, we dig in.

“We may not always have the ball in some of the games we’ve been very good on the ball but not quite as good today so we’ve decided to use counter-attacking and scoring from corner kicks. So it’s not a bad recipe if we do not have enough off the ball.”

When asked if he’d expected to be sitting third in the Premier League at this stage of the season, Moyes added: “No, probably not.

“I was a bit disappointed after the start of the season we had a chance to go further up before the Brentford game. And this time a month ago, we lose a goal in the last minute which we felt that we didn’t deserve but it happens so I’m pleased about that.

“I am pleased we are there we are there on merit, I think we’re doing a lot of good things. You can see the quality of the players what they are giving and the attitude which helps greatly.”
